At 9 months, I signed Jaxon up for a vaccine study. He got vaccinated for Meningitis. He received one shot at 9 months, one at 12 months, and then today had a blood draw.
He takes after me and has small veins. They also said since he hasn't been drinking as much (due to his little cold) he might be a little dehydrated which doesn't help veins. They put on this numbing lotion and then warm packs. The warm packs consist of a diaper soaked in warm water and then wrapped around his arm. He had a diaper on each arm so they could see which vein was going to work. When they were trying to get the blood, they gave him a sucker. He didn't even care that he got poked, he just wanted his sucker. Well... they couldn't get in the vein after a poke in each arm. So they did the same thing all over again with his wrist and his foot. They couldn't find a good vein in the wrist and didn't poke him. They found a small one in his foot and told me it was up to me if they were going to try it. I said to go ahead since I would have had to come back. Well, they finally got it. But this time Jaxon was tired of being held down and cried.
He was a real trooper and did a great job!!
They also checked his iron levels. They like to check it at 12 months, but with the study they just waited until now so they wouldn't have to draw blood twice. His levels were great!!
We also had a weight check. It seems like every time we go to the doctor, Jaxon gets sick right before and stops eating and drops a little weight. At his 12 month appointment he was 18 lbs. 8 oz. The doctor was only mildly concerned. Today, at 13 months, he weighs 19 lbs. 15 oz. So, a pound and a half in a month, not too shabby.

First off, its still so crazy to me that he is 13 months old! And what a little trooper getting poked so much and putting up with it!
